Melissa Masse
Melissa Masse is a designer who has worked for Donna Karan and Richard Tyler and opened her own store in Los Angeles a few years back. What made Melissa Masse’s store so different was customers could buy her creations off the rack and they would be tailored to your fit and the prices stayed within reason.
I think it’s also a very good sign and certainly worth mentioning that a young up and coming designer in Los Angeles (of all places) decided to add plus sizes to her line very early in the game. Pair Melissa Masse with another young designer like Rachel Pally and it gives you hope that while “old school” designers might frown on doing plus sizes newer designers relatively new to the fashion industry don’t have the same bias or at the very least have the business savvy to disregard it.
In 2002 Masse started wholesaling to upscale department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Saks recently started carrying her line as has Bloomingdale’s. The online plus size Boutique La Grande Dame also carries a small selection of Melissa Masse Plus Size.
