Alfani
Alfani Plus Size clothing is a private label brand exclusive to Macy’s
I like Alfani, I really do (the quality is quite good given the price) but I’m getting a tad concerned that they are “pulling a Talbots”. What is pulling a Talbots? As I mention elsewhere on the site: a few years back Talbots tried to go hip and trendy, but it backfired because that’s not what Talbot’s does, they do classic and eventually (thankfully) Talbot’s went back to that.
Alfani was usually fashionable without being overly young or trendy and they did a lot of good staples, especially for the professional woman looking for decent plus size suits. What I’m seeing lately is pretty and fashionable but (at least online) I’m not seeing that many classic basics or things that might appeal to a “woman of a certain age” and that’s a bit alarming as all of the new designers doing plus size are going for the younger market, leaving the more mature plus size customer with fewer choices than ever and they already have INC International Concepts for the younger plus size customer.
Also, it seems to be they use poly chiffon now almost exclusively whereas the used to use real silk – but, the be fair the price reflects that: Where their tops used to retail in the $99-$109 they now hover around $75. (Psst, to the powers that be at Macy’s – I’d rather the silk)
