So I’ve had my eye on this Eileen Fisher silk blouse but like many I’ve gotten used to the markdown madness that has engulfed retailers lately and was biding my time waiting for it to get marked down.
Well, low and behold Nordstrom has done it’s SECOND markdown on the missy and petite version of this blouse (it’s down to 50% off) yet the plus size has not budged from it’s full price of $208
I’m not trying to get on Nordstrom because they certainly aren’t the only retailer that does this – it just annoys the living daylights out of me.
Update 9/9: This Eileen Fisher Blouse has now been reduced (by 33%) to $138.90
Update 9/29: This Blouse is now 50% Off ($103.90)
Well, I knew this was coming but I wasn’t supposed to say anything until it was official: Spencer Alexis is no longer.
Now, I know a lot of my customers did not like Spencer Alexis but for every customer I had who hated it I had 10 who loved it.
I don’t know the whole story behind the demise of Spencer Alexis all I know is another manufacturer who did plus sizes is no longer.
For those of you who don’t know: Spencer Alexis started out only doing plus sizes and eventually expanded into Missy and Petite sizes. I can’t help but think that maybe that was part of the problem – but you know, there is this myth out there that plus size women are more apt to buy a brand that is made for all sizes, that she doesn’t want to buy a “plus size brand”.
Now, maybe that’s true for like 5% of the women I know but for the other 95% – if it is attractive, if it is good quality and reasonably priced they won’t care if it’s “only a plus size” brand they will buy it.
Hello and welcome to Affinity Fashion where we focus on the customer that brick and mortar retail has forgotten and/or ignored: The Upscale Plus Size Woman – not plus size girl, not plus size teenager: the plus size WOMAN. The plus size woman who has essentially been forced to do her upscale plus size shopping online.
While there are a few sites on the internet that talk about plus size shopping online and make recommendations and such most of those sites tend to be geared towards the more contemporary plus size shopper . . . well a 40 or 50 year old woman doesn’t need to waste her time checking out Torrid just as a 20 year old is probably not going to be too interested in checking out the latest from Misook or Eileen Fisher.
And let’s be honest, ladies: a lot of what is available for the plus size woman is hideous so I’m not going to waste your valuable time sending you off on a wild goose chase to a site that most likely holds no interest to you.
So once again, welcome and thank you for visiting! Karen W.
